Wheat, life, a means of sustenance for the families who once lived in the countryside. This morning in Porto Torres, the traditional festival dedicated to Santu Bainzeddu, patron saint of farmers, took place. A sunny day began with Mass celebrated in the small church of Balai Lontano by the priest Don Simone Manca, along with Monsignor Salvatore Masia and Don Michele Murgia.
Finally, a long procession with the portadores and the group from the Intragnas Cultural Association in costume, carrying a composition of plants and flowers, the so-called Sepolcri, a symbol of life and rebirth . They walked along the cycle and pedestrian path along Provincial Road 81, overlooking the Gulf of Asinara, through fields that awaken with spring, all together in prayer: priests and faithful who recited the litanies invoking God for a good harvest.
"Let us remember to always entrust ourselves to the Lord," said Monsignor Masia , "resorting to the intercession of Saints Gavino, Proto, and Gianuario. This is a peace we experience on this occasion, but one we would like to share with all those who suffer needlessly from greed and a lack of love for their neighbor."
The procession concluded with a blessing by the sea on Balai beach. The celebration will continue in the afternoon at Cumbessias, where the Intragnas group, in collaboration with the Basilica of San Gavino, has organized entertainment featuring music and delicious food.
