It took four months, after some delays and administrative approvals, to remove the sailboat that ran aground at the first stop on Poetto beach following a storm on March 6th. The removal operations, which began about ten days ago, were completed today.

Nydia, the name of the 12-meter vessel, was moved using mechanical means. The shoreline is now clear again: "The recovery operations," the City of Cagliari announced, "which were extremely delicate for the affected area, were carried out without incident and without any damage to the marine ecosystem: the beach is now accessible to the public again."

The vessel was transferred to an authorized facility for the subsequent demolition phases. "The total costs of the removal and transportation operations," according to a statement from the city hall, "were advanced by the Municipality and will be paid in full by the owners of the sailboat."

Behind Nydia is the story of the Argentine navigator Matias who had lived on board for years with his family and pets .

On the night of the shipwreck, due to bad weather and very rough seas, the man was ashore. A few days earlier, the Nydia had suffered damage to its bow after being struck by a dinghy.

The owner had temporarily repaired the leak, but due to the terrible weather, water had entered through it, causing the ropes to snap. The boat drifted and ended up beached off Poetto beach. A fundraiser was organized to support Matias and his family, who had long since chosen to settle in Sardinia.
