The incessant rain didn't deter about twenty riders from the Duminiga de provas de Sa Carrela 'e Nanti. The first day of dress rehearsals went smoothly, with the Lussurgesi riders competing on the dirt of Via Roma despite the inclement weather, all protected by helmets and back protectors in compliance with the Abodi decree. No strikes occurred: the announced walkout by some riders, in opposition to the ministerial decree, did not take place.
There was some bitterness among the people on the roadside. The inevitable comparison with Oristano raised some eyebrows and the crucial question: why was the decree applied to Sa Carrela 'e Nanti but not to the Sartiglia? An unanswered question. Disappointment over an incomprehensible disparity: "Ours is Italy's Historic Carnival, recognized by the Ministry and the Region, but we just can't understand this discrepancy in the application of the law," was the murmur from the crowd between one Carrela and the next.
The galloping pairs, braving the incessant rain, showed traditional harmony and composure, providing moments of lively excitement to the many enthusiasts of the historic Lussurgese race who came from all over the world.
The anticipation is now heating up for the Carnival triduum, from Sunday, February 15th to Tuesday, February 17th: an eager wait with the hope of a surprise move that bypasses the restrictions imposed by the decree, to preserve the spectacle and excitement of the ancient and wild Lussurgese horse race.
Mayor Diego Loi: "We have acted to safeguard the Carrela 'e Nanti. If there are other technically feasible routes that allow us to protect the race, we will take them, including the latest technical solution adopted at the Sartiglia, which we are examining together with the riders' association."
