"Arrogance and propaganda bring neither flights nor development." Marco Tedde, Forza Italia national councilor, harshly criticizes Regional President Alessandra Todde's comments regarding Ryanair and calls on Sardinian mayors to make their voices heard.
According to the Forza Italia representative, "faced with Europe's leading airline, which is planning investments of hundreds of millions of euros, new operating bases, more connections, millions of additional passengers, and hundreds of jobs, a responsible ruling class should engage in dialogue, listen, and evaluate . Todde, instead, chooses the path of confrontation and permanent opposition ."
For Tedde , Sardinia continues to pay the price of its insularity and lack of air connections . "Any proposal aimed at increasing passenger traffic, routes, and investment should be seriously examined . Instead, we are witnessing an ideological closure that risks driving away concrete opportunities for growth."
The Forza Italia national councilor then recalls the party's years-long battle in Alghero to abolish the municipal surcharge on boarding fees, which they cite as a way to make Sardinian airports more competitive.
"We didn't limit ourselves to slogans," he emphasizes, "but promoted public conferences with university professors and experts in the airport, economic, and tourism sectors."
Tedde cites the examples of Abruzzo, Calabria, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Sicily, and Emilia-Romagna, regions that have chosen to support the abolition of the surcharge to attract companies, investments, and new connections. "While others are racing, Sardinia remains immobile," he says.
Controversy also surrounds the possibility of regional public intervention in airports. "On the one hand, there is mistrust toward those seeking to invest hundreds of millions of euros in Sardinia, while on the other, there is a plan to spend approximately 30 million euros of public resources to acquire company shares that would not guarantee any real power of direction." Finally, an appeal was made to the mayor of Alghero, the mayors of the Metropolitan City, and the mayors of the areas affected by airport traffic to remind President Todde "of a greater sense of institutional responsibility."
