Rubbish and a car set on fire . It is not a belvedere at all that is found a few steps from the Sant'Elia stadium and, even worse, near the Arena Grandi Eventi . Shortly before Christmas, the municipal department of urban hygiene had started an extraordinary cleaning operation - which then, the Municipality promises, will become ordinary - of the most degraded areas of the neighborhood.
Despite this, however, unknown people did not waste time in making things dirty again . It is not the first time that cars and piles of rubbish have been set on fire in the area. Last year it had happened more than once near the entrance to a nursery school in Lao Silesu square. The area was cleaned up only after many complaints from the children's parents and some residents.
Now the residents are once again furious about the degradation. " Until they put up cameras, the uncivilized will continue to do what they want ," say some residents of the area, "and this will continue to be a no man's land. We are tired of the degradation ." The sigh of relief for the illegal landfills removed in December, therefore, did not last long. The councilor for soil hygiene Luisa Giua Marassi had appealed to the civic sense of the citizens for the occasion.
