A raid by the Guardia di Finanza (Financial Police) has resulted in the legal representative of an agricultural cooperative being charged. In the countryside of Riola Sardo, the Guardia di Finanza seized over 2,500 hemp plants on a large agricultural area. The legal representative of the agricultural cooperative that owned the land has been charged. Meanwhile, the investigation continues.
In recent days, officers from the Economic and Financial Police Unit of the Guardia di Finanza in Oristano, acting on a tip from the Cagliari Financial Police Air Section, located a large hemp plantation. Over 2,500 plants were being tended on land owned by an agricultural cooperative. The farm, which consisted of a large outdoor area, included four greenhouses and six warehouses where the hemp was processed. The plants, up to 1.6 meters tall, with mature inflorescences of various varieties, were arranged in a series of well-organized rows, each equipped with a sprinkler. In total, the drug weighed approximately 8 tons.
After various investigations and the examination of several samples by the Cagliari Customs and Monopolies Agency, the military notified the Oristano Prosecutor's Office, and searches were conducted at the company premises and the home of the cooperative's legal representative. Seven kilos of inflorescences ready for sale were seized, as well as 40 kilos of processing residues, which, along with over 2 kilos of kief (a powdered form of cannabis), could have been used to make hashish blocks. The cooperative's manager has been charged. Investigations are ongoing, as are checks by the Guardia di Finanza, which, with the assistance of its helicopter unit, is always on the front lines in efforts to combat hemp cultivation and the narcotics trade.
