Ribbon cutting at the Maritime Station: the intermodal hub is born in Porto Torres
For passengers, the possibility of quickly switching from one vehicle to another by making the most of the connections of buses, trains and linersRibbon cutting at the "Nino Pala" Maritime Station of Porto Torres , transformed into a real intermodal center in order to allow a quick and simple passage from one means of transport to another in the Turritan port.
The rationalization project indicates new bus stops equipped with covered shelters and an exchange facility for travelers on connecting buses, trains and liners.
This morning the inauguration ceremony of a structure that has been reconverted thanks to the memorandum of understanding signed last March between the regional transport department, the Municipality of Porto Torres, the Port System Authority of the Sardinian Sea, the Consortium Provincial industrialist of Sassari, Arst and Atp Sassari.
Since the beginning of the year, under the direction of the regional Transport Department, the various entities had set up several technical tables, together with the Italian Railway Network (RFI) and the Port Authority, to reorganize the reception, transport and safety of travelers in the port area.
Here are some of the interventions carried out to make the intermodal hub operational: via Bassu has become the terminus of the Arst and Atp lines; two physical barriers have been demolished which prevented the maritime station from having a direct pedestrian connection with the railway station, from one top, and with the Molo Segni from the other; the management of the internal bar was entrusted, thus adding to the services to the public already offered by the shipping companies, by Arst and by the municipal tourist office; the entire road system was reorganized, with the provision of additional parking spaces for taxis and chauffeured vehicles.
THE CEREMONY – During the ceremony the mayor Massimo Mulas , the administrator of Arst Roberto Neroni , the territorial operational director of RFI Alberto Parsi , the commander of the Harbor Master's Office Frigate Captain Gabriele Peschiulli , the president of the Authority took the floor port system Massimo Deiana , the prefect of Sassari Paola Dessì and the regional transport councilor Antonio Moro.
"This result demonstrates that we are starting to give Porto Torres the role it deserves as an essential hub for passenger and freight traffic," said councilor Moro . «In less than six months - he continued - thanks to the spirit of collaboration shown by all the bodies involved, we were able to reprogram this structure starting simply from the needs of those traveling for tourism or work. The public administration can rethink the entire transport system by putting the passenger at the center and favoring mechanisms of dialogue and sharing. As happened in this case: in a short time we have knocked down barriers that had been erected over the decades without any logic. I really thank everyone for the effort made in the belief that together we are contributing to improving the second gateway to the island by annual number of passengers".
The mayor of Porto Torres Massimo Mulas expressed his satisfaction: «I address a special thanks to the councilor Moro for the ability shown in motivating and involving all the entities that have responsibilities in various capacities in this project - declared the mayor Massimo Mulas - ; we can say that, thanks also to the work done by the Port System Authority, our port is starting to change its face and unfold its potential. This inauguration is a starting point: there is still a lot to do but the unity of purpose seen on this occasion bodes well for the implementation of the next interventions».
