Work begins on Viale Europa . Starting tomorrow, extraordinary maintenance work begins on the former State Road 554 , one of Quartu's most important and busiest thoroughfares, which every day sees thousands of vehicles, including commuters, residents, and those traveling to and from the coast. This is where potholes and uneven surfaces have long been a common occurrence, reported daily by motorists.
This urgent intervention is necessary due to the condition of the road surface and the need to ensure safety, pending the thorough redevelopment of the arterial road—with roundabouts replacing traffic lights—which has been attempted for years.
The emergency resurfacing project will last approximately ten days. Work begins tomorrow with inspections, signage installation, and area preparation. Actual asphalt work will begin midweek to restore the road to safe condition.
To limit disruption, the works will be carried out in phases: first one section, then the other, with traffic guaranteed in a single lane. The administration warns that during rush hour, there may be delays and traffic jams, and urges drivers to "be patient, be careful, respect signs, and, if possible, consider alternative routes or less congested times."
The project will cost approximately €300,000, an additional outlay that will delay other work scheduled for the fifth lot of the framework agreement. This was a necessary decision, the Municipality explains, dictated by the priority of securing a strategic infrastructure, in accordance with the principle that guides all asphalt planning: the most dangerous and busiest roads first.
The city's road resurfacing program, which has already cost approximately €12 million since the start of the Milia administration and will continue with another €4 million in investment, continues unabated. Soon, almost simultaneously with the work on Viale Europa, the City Council announced, the first works on the waterfront will also begin, starting in the Stella di Mare 1 area. This will continue the work of reorganizing and improving the safety of Quartu's road network between the city center and the waterfront, which has been ongoing since the beginning of the last council term.
