Renovation work at the Oncology Department sparks controversy: "Operating rooms closed, no clear timeline."

The operating rooms at the Oncology Hospital were closed in April 2025. This year, again in April, the redevelopment and expansion project, funded with €11 million from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) , began. According to the unions , however, " there is no end in sight for the work, and above all, there is no firm timetable . We need to act quickly to ensure that vulnerable patients receive the best possible care and assistance."

Gianfranco Angioni , regional director of USB Sanità, speaks of " sixteen months of temporary measures that have become normal, " adding that "the new operating block in Corps F is still a construction site." He requests that the deadline for the works, set by the general management for December 2026, be made " binding, public, and verifiable ," with a timetable in hand.

The BRTZU responded promptly, with Director General Marcias describing the work as "completed within the timeframe set by the ministry."
