Yesterday, the Council of Ministers approved plans for the construction of renewable energy plants in Sardinia.
These are the “Boreas” wind farm in Ogliastra, in the municipalities of Jerzu and Ulassai, the “Cacip_25” photovoltaic plant in Macchiareddu, in Uta, and the “Serramanna 2” solar agrivoltaic plant.
These are all projects (14 were unblocked yesterday in total, the others are in Puglia, Basilicata and Lazio) that had received a favourable VIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) from the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security and a negative opinion from the Superintendencies of the Ministry of Culture.
In these cases, the law requires the final decision to be made by the Council of Ministers. About once a month, these projects reach the Council of Ministers: the Ministry of Economic Development approves them because they produce clean energy and achieve the National Energy Plan's renewable energy targets. The Superintendencies reject them, often with the support of municipalities and regions, arguing that they ruin the landscape. "In 80% of cases, the Council of Ministers rules in our favor," they explain at the Ministry of the Environment.
The plants approved in Sardinia
"Boreas" is a wind farm with 10 turbines, each generating 6 MW, located in the municipalities of Jerzu and Ulassai, along with related ancillary works. Committees and the local community are opposed to the project because the turbines, over 200 meters tall, in the Ogliastra "Tacchi" (heels) would distort the local identity.
Cacip_25 is a 25.29 MW photovoltaic plant with related connection works to be built in Uta, in the industrial area of Macchiareddu.
"Serramanna 2", on the other hand, is an agrivoltaic plant with a power of 27.1362 MW.
