For over 35 years, he and Cagliari have been one of the most beautiful chapters in football history. A relationship that began in the world of sport but then developed around the person.
Claudio Ranieri is officially an honorary citizen of Cagliari: this morning at Palazzo Bacaredda, Mayor Massimo Zedda presented him with a certificate and the award. "A bond that goes beyond sporting," said the mayor.
"I'm happy to be considered one of you, a Sardinian, a Cagliari native," Ranieri stated. "Above all, I'm happy that this recognition originates in the sporting world—with the promotion from Serie C to Serie A in the early 1990s, the success four years ago with the return to Serie A in the play-off against Bari—but ultimately it's a recognition of me personally," added the visibly emotional coach, concluding: "A heartfelt thank you to everyone."
