The so-called "fake carabiniere scam" also arrives in Sassari.
The mechanism is simple: the criminals identify the potential victim, make a phone call and introduce themselves as carabinieri who have arrested a relative or friend.
Then they ask the victim for the money of a phantom bail.
But this time the intended victim - a 90-year-old woman - didn't fall for it and, after the phone call and the request for money for the alleged arrest of her son, she turned to the real carabinieri to find out if what she had been told phone is true or not.
At that point the discovery: it was really all false.
Then the carabinieri started the investigation, emphasizing the kindness of the old lady's behavior and recalling that, to avoid taking risks, to always contact the real carabinieri in case some self-styled soldier or representative of the police forces phones to make strange requests.
