They defrauded an elderly woman with the excuse of repairing her gas stove , entering her home and trying to steal almost 700 euros. It happened in Lanusei where the Carabinieri reported two men, a 24-year-old and a 30-year-old resident in the province of Catania .

On October 7, 2024, the two showed up at the 90-year-old's door as gas stove maintenance workers and, having gained the woman's trust, entered the house. Although the elderly woman did not agree, they began to dismantle the burner plates, saying that they needed to be replaced due to the risk of gas leaks, asking for a sum of 650 euros. The woman, perplexed by the amount requested, said that she would call her nephew and the Carabinieri. The two, however, managed to convince her to pay 350 euros without calling anyone.

Taking advantage of the request for an invoice , the duo took the money and left. The scene did not go unnoticed by a neighbor who, noticing the situation, called 112. The military, after having listened to witnesses and analyzed the video surveillance images, identified and reported the perpetrators, who had also used a vehicle with a counterfeit license plate.
