Following the complaint filed by former regional health councillor and former parliamentarian Roberto Capelli regarding the conditions of patients hospitalised at the San Francesco hospital in Nuoro , the ASL 3 has responded , publishing the results of the checks carried out by its technical services on the state of the facility's air conditioning.
In recent days, Capelli had denounced a situation he defined as "no longer tolerable" , speaking of fragile, elderly and debilitated patients forced to endure high temperatures in the wards and of family members who, in some cases, had brought fans from home to relieve the heat in the hospital rooms.
In the complaint sent to the health authority's top management, the NAS (National Health Authority), and the Carabinieri, the former councilor requested urgent inspections of the hospital's environmental conditions , also denouncing the presence of beds in the corridors and a progressive downgrading of the facility due to a shortage of doctors. The matter also reached the City Council, where Councilor Pierluigi Saiu urged the mayor of Nuoro, as the highest local health authority, to intervene.
Former MP Mara Lapia also intervened on the issue, speaking of a serious situation within the San Francesco hospital.
Now, in a press release, Local Health Authority 3 has responded with numbers. "Following the information acquired from the records," the statement reads, "Local Health Authority 3 of Nuoro, through its technical services, has conducted appropriate checks on the air conditioning status of the inpatient wards of San Francesco Hospital." According to the health authority, there are 90 inpatient rooms in the Torre Ward: 77 are already equipped with independent portable air conditioners, while the remaining 13 are scheduled to have them installed within a few days. In the Emergency and Admissions Department (DEA), all 43 rooms are served by the centralized air conditioning system, which is currently operational. The Plate Ward, with its 36 rooms, including those of the Day Hospital, is also fully covered thanks to centralized systems and split units installed in areas not reached by the main system. Based on the checks, the Local Health Authority states that the hospital's air-conditioned areas have approximately 93% coverage . The health authority also adds that, "aware that the quality of hospitality is an integral part of hospital care," additional portable air conditioners are already being installed in the few rooms still without air conditioning, with the aim of mitigating the high temperatures and completing coverage of the entire facility.
The response comes after days of controversy and requests for intervention from political and institutional figures. It now remains to be seen whether the investigations requested in Capelli's complaint will lead to further investigations.
