He was targeted and insulted for an ironic video about seaweed in the Sardinian sea.

The story unfolding on the Grimat family's Instagram profile perfectly exemplifies the workings of social media and the touchy (sometimes inappropriate) nature of many Sardinian users. A father (Luca Grizzanti), a mother (Francesca Mattuzzi), and their daughter decided to travel to 100 countries around the world before their daughter turns 18. He's a factory worker, she's a waitress. They embark on their low-cost adventure , providing tips—including on how to save—to their hundreds of thousands of followers.

An experiment to discover the world, theirs. Which in Sardinia has faced a (seemingly) inevitable controversy based on a mix of classic elements: the "mainlander" who has his say on the island is contesting something. And he's insulted by the Sardinians, with the "people of the web" becoming indignant. It's a shame that this time the "criticism" was clearly ironic. Many understood it. But just as many, too many, have devoted themselves to invective.

The video of the "misdeed" has amassed 6.6 million views. At the top, the caption reads, "Sardinia doesn't have the most beautiful water in the world." Below, he is immersed in the crystalline sea, beautiful to the nth degree. He imitates a hypothetical Sardinian: " No, because we have the most beautiful water in the world," he says haughtily. "Then I come to Sardinia... look: a seaweed." And he pulls up that single, small, harmless seagrass leaf. "Sardinians, get down from your pedestal, it's not the most beautiful water in the world," adds Grizzanti. It was clearly an antiphrastic video. That it meant exactly the opposite of what was said.

But nothing. Indignation reigned supreme. So much so that the same author, days later, almost incredulous, had to make another, to show how many Sardinians hadn't understood the compliment to their island. A woman insulted him, someone wrote, "Irony, this stranger." And she replied again: "I'm not a stranger, I'm Sardinian." Here, she didn't understand a basic text. After not even understanding the illustrations (in the video).
