No wind farm in Villaperuccio. The Ministry of Energy Security and the Environment has rejected the proposed construction of ten 200-meter-tall wind turbines in the countryside of the Sulcis town by Sardeolica (a Saras Group company). The reason: the birds that frequent the nearby Monte Pranu reservoir, which also gives the project its name, must be protected. But the cultural heritage located less than three kilometers from the proposed turbines must also be protected .

The decree rejecting the operation, which began in 2023, is dated September 2. The director general of the Environmental Assessment Service at Mase, Gianluigi Nocco, and his colleague from the Special Superintendency for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, Fabrizio Magani, endorsed the negative opinions expressed by the ministerial offices that analyzed the proposal and halted the project. None of the documents mention any regional regulations.

On the archaeological front, the Ministry of Culture emphasized that the proposed wind turbines "impose themselves on the natural and rural landscape as extraneous and out-of-scale technological elements that diminish the dimensional relationship of the rural churches and small population centers with the surrounding territory and constitute a visual obstacle to the perception of settlement relationships." Furthermore, "the facility is capable of producing a change in the perception of the cultural and natural landscape for many years and resulting in negative impacts on the settled communities. This change in perception," demonstrated by numerous photographs certifying the strong impact of such tall turbines, "at the expense of the sense of identity that derives from the consolidated views of a familiar landscape, leads to a progressive loss of value, to the point of disavowal of the places, which reverberates on land management actions and the protection and enhancement of cultural and landscape assets."

But there's also the environmental front: "The planned wind farm," the Ministry writes, "is located near one of the region's main artificial lakes: Lake Monte Pranu, which, with its size, constitutes an essential area for migratory and sedentary birdlife, including numerous species of conservation interest [...] at distances between 400 and 2,000 meters as the crow flies from the perimeter of the lake." Furthermore, "the wind farm lies between the Natura 2000 Network sites on the southeastern coast of Sardinia and the central-southern sites." The towers planned by Sardeolica "in these areas and near the body of water would have an unavoidable impact on the birdlife that frequents the area." And so it goes: Sardeolica will not build the wind towers in Villaperuccio.
