"No to wind turbines": the mayor of Maracalagonis against the project for Torre delle Stelle

Two years ago, the battle carried out by the Municipality of Maracalagonis against the project to install 14 mega wind turbines in front of Torre delle Stelle seemed to have averted the devastation. So much so that no one had spoken about it anymore. Instead, a few weeks ago, the cold shower arrived at the Municipality announcing that the project was still alive, indeed. Far from being set aside.
The project is there but the mayor of Maracalagonis, Francesca Fadda, today wrote to the Ministry of the Environment to say no again to these works in one of the most beautiful areas of the entire coastal strip of Southern Sardinia . Hills full of charm, archaeological sites, a natural habitat of extraordinary beauty. And then the sea, Torre delle Stelle, Solanas, Baccu Mandara that only dream of five-star tourism. Mayor Fadda repeated her no to the Ministry of the Environment, also explaining the reasons.
"The project does not carefully evaluate the detailed environmental and landscape contexts, considered extremely important for the sustainability of the work" , the letter from the mayor. "Furthermore, the impact on the territory and in the proposed areas has not been evaluated, from the geological to the morphological characteristics, vegetation, fauna and archaeological and historical-cultural settlements, as well as the presence of Special Protection Zones, Sites of Community Interest, Wildlife Protection Oases, Parks or other similar institutions".
Mayor Fadda also adds that "the estimate of the anemometric resource and therefore of the production capacity of the project plant was carried out through a satellite survey of the wind flow in an area with a buffer of 9 km from the perimeter of the site. A fictitious estimate without objective evidence. The new EIA procedure must be rejected completely also because the realization of the project would destroy the environment with devastating effects also on tourism". All that remains is to wait for events. But here, nobody wants to hear about wind turbines .
