It's not the fault of digital platforms, but they are the stage where emotional immaturity becomes a whirlwind. On the occasion of the "Dies Iudicialis"—the event with which the Sardinian ecclesiastical courts inaugurated the judicial year this morning—experts and magistrates debated the stability of modern relationships.

The illusion of constant presence

According to Tullio Garau, president of the Sardinian Order of Psychologists, social media acts as an amplifier of pre-existing fragility. The compulsive search for approval creates a vicious cycle: "A delay in responding creates unwarranted alarms: 'I'm not seen, I'm not taken into account.' We look externally for something to support the structure of a self that is not yet adult."

From emotional emptiness to marital nullity

The problem isn't confined to the screen, but is permeating real life and definitive decisions. Father Emanuele Meconcelli, judicial vicar of the Teis, emphasizes how immaturity is today the main cause of invalid consent: a "serious lack of discretion" that prevents a clear assessment of the next step in marriage. This phenomenon, in 2025, affected over 70% of the cases filed with the Sardinian Interdiocesan Ecclesiastical Tribunal.
