Attempted telephone scam against an elderly lady in Porto Torres, one of the many victims of a consolidated technique aimed at extorting money and valuables.

But this time the 81-year-old woman, resident in Porto Torres , did not fall into the trap and reported the episode to the police. The facts date back to Tuesday morning, December 10, at half past twelve, when the pensioner, at that moment alone in her home, received a phone call on her landline from a stranger who said her name, thus showing that he knew her family well .

" He knew our names, mine and my brother's ," explains the 58-year-old daughter, "so, after making sure my mother was home alone, he used his usual ruse, telling her that my brother had caused a bad accident by hitting an eight-month-pregnant woman, who unfortunately died ."

The old woman began to despair and become so agitated that she attracted the attention of some of the tenants of the building where she lives.

"In the meantime, the accomplice, again by phone, pretended to be my brother who was asking him for valuables to avoid ending up in prison. So, my mother became suspicious, recognized that it was not her son's voice and rebelled , answering the scammers." Luckily, the neighbor, just as the second phone call was in progress, entered the old woman's home and, finding the woman upset by the phone conversation, intervened and immediately understood that an attempted scam was underway. The incident was then reported by the victim to the Carabinieri of the Porto Torres company, who started an investigation.
