He contacted him by phone pretending to be an anti-fraud inspector from the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Sassari. But the scammer was him .

A 33-year-old resident of Brindisi has been reported for a scam of almost 50 thousand euros to the detriment of a 75-year-old from Tertenia .

The fake inspector told the old man about an investigation into several branch managers of the Banco di Sardegna who, he said, were defrauding numerous account holders by withdrawing money from their current accounts .

Then, as expected, shortly after another call came from a man identifying himself as Inspector “Grilli” who, taking advantage of the victim's good faith and his fear arising from the previous phone call, convinced him to make a bank transfer of 49,800 to secure the money in his current account.

The elderly man complied and the next day, realizing the scam, went to file a complaint with the Carabinieri of the Lanusei Station. The scammer was identified following documentary checks, analysis of the phone records and a search of his residential address, where the card associated with the IBAN to which the large sum of money was transferred was found . In order to gain the trust of the victims, the man pretended to be a Carabinieri, even using photos taken from the web of two officers of the force as his Whatsapp profile photo.
