The Regional Administrative Court of Sardinia has rejected the appeal of a livestock farm in the province of Oristano against a series of provisions issued by the Animal Health Department of the Local Health Authority (ASL) 5 of Oristano regarding measures to be implemented in an outbreak of Lumpy Skin Disease in cattle.

The Oristano Local Health Authority (ASL) announced this in a statement, which reads: "The Regional Administrative Court (TAR) has recognized the full legitimacy of the various measures adopted by the Oristano Local Health Authority (ASL) aimed at preventing and controlling the disease, classified by the European Union as Category A. This means that the disease is not normally present in the European Union and, once identified , must be eradicated by culling all animals kept in the affected establishment as quickly as possible, in order to avoid any risk of spreading the pathogenic agent of the relevant Category A disease during and after culling."

In the province of Oristano, the Local Health Authority adds, "lump-forming skin disease has affected only one herd of 35 cattle. Vaccinations have so far allowed 92% of the cattle in the province to be immunized: 56,075 out of 60,947 cattle have been vaccinated."
