From work in prison to a welcoming network of companies: this is the theme of the conference that took place this morning in the former distilleries in via Ampere in Pirri. This was the first public event relating to the project launched almost two years ago by Elan Società Cooperativa Sociale, with the support of the Foundation with the South, to promote the social recovery and professional reintegration of twenty-four people subjected to prison sentences.

The works were attended by Carlo Borgomeo (president of the Foundation with the south), monsignor Giuseppe Baturi (archbishop of Cagliari), Roberto Mura (deputy mayor of the Metropolitan City of Cagliari), Marco Porcu (director of the Prison of Uta), Enrico Zucca (director Ipm Quartucciu- Cagliari Juvenile Justice Center), Nicoletta Atzeni (Social Service officer and Territorial Operational Sector Contact for the Supervisory Judiciary), Alessio Scandurra (coordinator of the Observatory of prison conditions of detention) and Vittorio Pelligra (teacher of the School of Civil Economics).

THE PROJECT - The first phase of the project concerns the use of the recipients in the industrial laundry, present in the penal structure, and the subsequent accompaniment to work in the phase of exit from detention. So far, nine beneficiaries have completed their journey. The subsequent development of the project foresees the involvement of the entrepreneurial realities present in the area, with a dual purpose. On the one hand, the aim is to activate partnerships aimed at guaranteeing effective economic sustainability for the Lav (or) ando Project. On the other hand, in a broader and longer-term vision, to offer new and concrete possibilities of inclusion to people subjected to a prison sentence, and to create a supportive and welcoming network of companies, based on the principles of civil economy and social responsibility.

THE INTERVENTIONS - Monsignor Giuseppe Baturi quoted the Holy Father: "In his message for the 55th World Day for Peace, Pope Francis indicated work as a priority for peace, an indispensable factor for building and preserving peace, is an expression of himself and of your gifts, you always work with or for someone. Work is the place where we learn to make our contribution to a more livable and beautiful world ". On the same line, Roberto Mura, deputy mayor of the metropolitan city of Cagliari: "I see something profound in this opportunity, the word forgiveness comes to mind, as a possible and alternative way for those who made a mistake, in an advantage that is not only economic but also social , because only those who are forgiven establish a relationship with others. It is also the basis of peace - I forgive, you receive forgiveness -, a very timely theme ", Mura commented," As an administration we need to have the common good not abstract before our eyes every day ".
