A mother and her two children were in a domestic inferno in Sassari. According to prosecutors, the cause was their third son and brother, who is now on trial for domestic abuse and assault.

The behavior allegedly began in 2021 due to the 50-year-old's claim to control the family income and management of the shared home. He threatened his cohabitants with phrases such as "I have my whole life to torture you" or "This is just the beginning, even if it means house arrest."

From words to deeds because he threw other people's personal belongings on the floor or in the garbage, flooded the apartment out of spite, damaged the furniture or forced family members to lock themselves in their rooms so as not to have to deal with them or to seek refuge with friends and acquaintances.

Two charges also relate to injuries inflicted, according to the indictment, on a brother, who was beaten once on the legs and arms with a wooden stick and, a second time, with a broom handle on the head, so severely that it caused a head trauma.

During today's hearing in court, prosecutor Antonio Piras requested a sentence of two years and two months, but Judge Valentina Nuvoli instead ordered a prison sentence of two years and four months. She also awarded the civil parties, represented by attorney Luigi Satta, a provisional payment of €3,000 to the brother who was injured and €1,500 to the mother and the other brother. The man was represented by attorney Agostinangelo Marras.
