He was expelled from the Porto Torres branch of the Sardinian Action Party on charges of "posting photos on his Facebook profile praising the fascist salute, along with statements that imply a complete commitment to the ideology of the national right, sometimes the most extreme."
Valter Usai, a member of the PSD'Az party in Turri, had his membership renewal request rejected in a letter signed by Tore Fadda, city commissioner of the "Simon Mossa" section. The former Sardinian leader's political stance, "repeatedly expressed in his social media posts," apparently conflicts with that of the PSD'Az party. For the leaders of the Four Moors party, "his behavior is incompatible with the party's statute, history, and political line." A paid membership card was returned to the sender, with the obligation to return the paid amount either by hand or by bank transfer.
In his defense, Usai has already decided to consult his own lawyer to file a complaint. "I'm ready to file a complaint for defamation," he states, "because what leaves me speechless is the accusation of being a fascist, made by a city commissioner from a party that, in the past, has allied itself with the League and the right, effectively destroying the PSD'Az."
The Sardinian membership drive in Porto Torres, following the electoral defeat in last June's municipal elections, began with the goal of ousting dissidents, longtime figures, and longtime members. Among them was Franco Madeddu, a party member for over forty years, who was ready to appeal a request for membership renewal, "mine and my wife's," which was rejected by the local branch.
The decision was apparently motivated by reasons related to the Statute, specifically Article 10, which establishes the conditions that would no longer be met because "membership of other political groups or support for lists opposed to those of the Party entails automatic exclusion from the Psd'Az without the need for disciplinary proceedings."
In the letter, Commissioner Fadda reminds Madeddu that during the mayoral campaign, "his clear and proven support for and vote-seeking for a political force opposed to the PSD'AZ candidate list was noted."
The battle within the historic party continues amid divisions and disagreements, a political force that continues to lose members, both old and new members who have left due to obvious disagreements. "Too much rancor and not enough politics," commented Franco Madeddu, "the internal wars are not good for a historic party like PSD'AZ, which risks disappearing."
