"Your daughter hit a man who is in serious condition. Pay 14,000 euros to keep her out of jail." With these words, a 32-year-old Neapolitan man tricked an elderly man from Osilo , who was reached by phone on November 18th. The man posed as a lawyer, tricking the man into paying 5,000 euros to his accomplice, a 20-year-old from Cassino , along with approximately 2,500 euros in jewelry.
All this while promising to take action to keep her daughter from going to prison after the fake runover. Luckily, the woman, completely unaware of what had happened, called her father, who learned he had been scammed and alerted the Carabinieri. The officers immediately began tracking the two, who were already under surveillance by law enforcement, and found them in Sassari, where they had attempted to hide part of the stolen money.
Arrested and taken to Bancali prison, they participated in the validation hearing today in court in Sassari, assisted by lawyers Anastasia Fara and Giuliano Mariano. Preliminary hearing judge Gian Paolo Piana downgraded the charge from extortion to fraud and ordered the validation of the arrest, banning the two from residing on the island, and requiring them to report to the Carabinieri station in their respective countries of origin. The prosecutor was Paolo Piras.
