The National Institute of Nuclear Physics, the company Orientare Srl and the cultural association Rosas 1945 Eventi have inaugurated the scientific exhibition Einstein Telescope, listening to the universe, in the Centro Polifunzionale Comunale of Nuoro, which will remain open until January 6, 2025.
The exhibition is dedicated to the most powerful instrument for detecting gravitational waves which, for the prospects it could open up, both in terms of new scientific knowledge and technological innovation, is considered a leading project at European level, so much so that it is included in the Roadmap of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI), the European body that gives indications on which scientific infrastructures it is crucial to invest in Europe.
Moderated by writer and journalist Stefano Ferri, the conference that opened the exhibition explored all the complex scientific and social issues related to the prospect of installing the telescope. After the introductory greeting by the Bishop of Nuoro, Monsignor Antonio Mura, read by the Vicar General Don Giuseppe Mattana, the President of the National Institute of Astrophysics Roberto Ragazzoni connected remotely, representing the Minister of University and Research Anna Maria Bernini. Also speaking remotely was Prof. Antonio Zoccoli, President of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics.
Afterwards, two of the promoters of the exhibition took the stage: Alessandro Cardini, Director of the Cagliari section of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics, and Alessandro D'Ambrosio, Administrator of Orientare Srl, who presented the exhibition in detail, its dissemination objectives and organizational criteria.
Prof. Domenico D'Urso of the University of Sassari, national manager of Einstein Telescope Italia, then had the task of describing the functioning and characteristics of the structure, with the help of some slides.
In conclusion, the President of ANCI Sardinia and Mayor of Fonni Daniela Falconi expressed the awareness of the territory and its institutions on how much of a priority, not only scientifically, this project is, and on the need to prepare structures and infrastructures adequately.
