It's a hoax that's circulating again on social media and WhatsApp groups, changing cities and geographic locations. Since yesterday evening, a message has been shared in Nuoro, especially among women, describing girls being drugged and robbed after smelling perfume offered by strangers. This story has circulated previously in various parts of Italy, without any confirmation, and continues to fuel alarm and concern.

The text circulated around the city, urging people to be vigilant and share the warning with other young women, describes two alleged incidents. In the first, a young woman was allegedly drugged in a movie theater bathroom and robbed after a woman made her smell perfume. In the second, a young woman was allegedly approached around 3:30 PM in a shopping center parking lot by two men who asked her what fragrance she was wearing and suggested she try a new one. The message also mentions the Grazie area and the former Nuoro market area, references that contribute to giving the story a local dimension and heightening concern among those who receive it.

However, there is no official confirmation of the incidents from the police and Carabinieri, who have not received any reports or complaints. The message does not provide the names of the alleged victims, verifiable dates, or any other information useful for reconstructing the facts. In short, the message about the perfume capable of stunning anyone who smells it is a fake.

If you do a web search, the similar story periodically resurfaces. As recently as July 2026, a similar story circulated near Sanremo, denied by the mayor. The same message appeared a week ago in Chieti. The fact that the message has resurfaced in Nuoro does not constitute proof that the incidents actually occurred. In the absence of corroboration, the authorities also advise against sharing anonymous and unverified stories, but only immediately reporting specific incidents to law enforcement.
