Quartucciu celebrates the art of bread making: at DomusArt the journey through the breads and sweets of the Island
The unmistakable voice of Elena Ledda got the party startedFor over four decades, the bread and sweets exhibition at DomusArT has been an unmissable event for lovers of Sardinian traditions . Born from an almost fairy-tale episode, in which a little mouse in the church of Sant'Antonio fed on sweets and bread, the exhibition today brings together over one hundred showcases that celebrate the art of bread-making throughout the island . Bread and sweets from every corner of Sardinia are offered to the sight and the palate, witnesses of a thousand-year-old culture that still resists and renews itself today.
Although the wood-fired oven was turned off this year for safety reasons, the smell of fresh bread – su moddizzosu, kneaded at dawn and left to rest in traditional cane baskets – permeates the atmosphere. The party was kicked off with the unmistakable voice of Elena Ledda, one of the most beloved interpreters of Sardinian musical culture.
The courtyard of the former Angioni house comes alive with scenes of peasant life: between a glass of sweet wine offered by the locals and the expert hands of Marcella Melis preparing fregola, you can breathe the authenticity of a centuries-old tradition. From fregola to the mostaccioli of Oristano, from the baskets of Sinnai to the ceramics of Assemini, every corner tells a story.
Anna Chiara Loi, president of the Pro Loco, proudly emphasizes the importance of preserving these traditions: "Bread is culture, identity and sharing. We must preserve our memory, even for those who no longer live in Sardinia." The Pro Loco of Candelara, guest of honor, also brought its gastronomic treasures, further enriching this celebration of the culture of bread.
