The multipurpose training and education center for the Civil Protection Marine Sector is being established in the Poetto area of Quartu. The facility, of regional public interest, will be used for specialized training in exercises in beach rescue and rescue in marine and coastal environments. The project also addresses the difficulties encountered in recent years by many coastal municipalities in finding adequately trained and qualified lifeguards.

This criticality, in some areas, has prevented the activation of beach rescue services and made it more difficult to comply with the requirements of the Port Authorities' ordinances. "The Center will allow us to integrate theoretical training, practical training, and field exercises, ensuring continuous updating of skills and the sharing of operational procedures," emphasized Mauro Merella, Director General of the Regional Civil Protection Department .

The project is part of the Regional Civil Protection School's curriculum and represents an important step toward increasingly specialized training tailored to the needs of our region . The goal is to ensure that resources, equipment, operators, and volunteers contribute to a truly coordinated response capacity. The pilot will allow us to directly verify the model's effectiveness and refine it based on operational needs.

The agreement was signed today between the Regional Council and the Municipality of Quartu. "Bringing training directly to the coast means preparing operators and volunteers for the real-life conditions in which rescue operations are called upon. With this project, we are strengthening prevention and safety on our coasts through concrete collaboration between the Region, the Municipality, and all the institutional and operational bodies involved," explained Regional Councilor for Environmental Protection Rosanna Laconi . "For our Municipality, this is a commitment of institutional responsibility, consistent with the need to make our coasts increasingly safe and adequately monitored," Mayor Graziano Milia commented after the agreement was signed.
