Brilliant results for the students of Liceo Brotzu in Quartu at the national stage of the student chess championships "School Chess Trophy" .

The event, which took place in Montesilvano, Abruzzo, involved 1500 students (290 teams) from schools of all levels from all Italian regions.

The team of the Brotzu high school of the junior male category (the one reserved for students born in the years 2005/2006), composed of the brothers Simone and Edoardo Margaritella, Andrea Marroccu and the captain Yaraslau Markevichus, after having passed the provincial and regional competitions, concluded the national competition in 22nd place in the national ranking out of 49 participating teams in the junior category, placing first among the teams in Sardinia. The Sardinian students were accompanied to Abruzzo by their physical education teacher Gigi Piras.

A prestigious result, which rewarded the determination, character and team spirit of the Quartese chess players.

Added to the team's commendable performance is the extraordinary individual result of captain Yaraslau Markevichus , known as Yara among his friends, who won all the matches of the tournament and was therefore awarded the best first board of the tournament.

Captain Yara also excelled in the blitz tournament, a special competition in which each player has a limited amount of time to complete the match. In the silence of the room, under the attentive gaze of her teammates and the cheering of all the Sardinian students present in the room, Yara won all seven rounds of the competition, also defeating players classified as "master" by the chess federation.

« It was difficult to predict a podium like this – says the head teacher Professor Giovanni Gugliota proudly –: our student won all the matches from the provincial phase to the national phase, I am sure that we will hear his name mentioned again in chess competitions at a national level» .
