After months of cutting and excavation, restoration work begins. The Milia administration has secured approval for the first phase from Sirti, for fiber optics, and Enel. Approximately 60 streets are affected, and inspections by the Technology Services department are underway.

The work is part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The goal is to modernize the city with a more stable electricity grid and fiber optics, even in underserved areas.

The teams have already started and will finish in about four months. This is not a definitive list, and will be updated as the work progresses. "Ensuring road safety is an ongoing commitment, with €12 million invested and over 60 kilometers resurfaced," the Municipality reminds us.

The list of repairs is long. From Via Cagliari, where workers and equipment are currently at work, to Via Verdi, passing through Via Fiume, Via Marconi, Via Dante, Via Messina, Via Leopardi, Piazza IV Novembre, Via Vespucci, and Via Trieste, to name a few of the streets on the list of repairs being paid for by Enel. Some streets are shared with the safety measures implemented after the fiber optic cable installation: the list also includes Via Leonardo Da Vinci, Via San Benedetto, Via Vico, Via Mori, and many others. This is an initial outline, not yet definitive, the Municipality warns: as the construction work progresses and new needs are identified, the program may be updated.

"The work, tied to NRRP funds, will cause disruption but will help modernize the city," says Antonio Conti, Councilor for Technology Services. "The offices will verify requirements and deadlines, with penalties for noncompliance."
