New raised crossings have been installed in the city, with the aim of ensuring greater safety for pedestrians and thus further reducing the number of road accidents and collisions, which have totaled over thirty this year alone. The Municipality of Quartu is committing new public resources to promote sustainable mobility and is also continuing to work on road safety education, particularly for young people, through projects aimed at schools.
Work on the new raised pedestrian crossings along Via Fiume will begin on Monday, December 22. One will be near the intersection with Via Generale dalla Chiesa , the other closer to the Margine Rosso roundabout, just beyond the end of Quartello Park.
This is a targeted intervention, designed to significantly increase pedestrian safety and improve the quality of urban space. Further similar interventions will be implemented as soon as those on Via Fiume are completed, in other areas of the city where dangerous situations have been identified.
"As an administration, we're paying increasing attention to sustainable mobility, focusing on people who travel on foot and sustainably. Raised crossings make pedestrian crossings more visible and protected and encourage a natural reduction in vehicle speed," explains Elisabetta Atzori, City Councilor for Mobility and Transport.
"This project on Via Fiume will not be an isolated one," adds Milia, a member of the Municipal Council. "Similar works are already planned for Viale Colombo and Via Marconi, as part of a coherent and progressive strategy to improve the safety and livability of our streets. The works are planned to minimize interference with local traffic and are accompanied by adequate vertical and horizontal signage."
