A fire in the Sant'Anastasia area of Quartu didn't even spare several very old tortoises, trapped in the flames. The blaze found easy fuel in the stubble of at least three hectares of land , attacking even tall trees and then spreading into the backyards of homes. A tool shed also burned.

Several people and some motorists raised the alarm , and the fire quickly spread across the entire flat area where the stubble had long been dry.
The Sinnai Forestry Corps, the Cagliari Fire Brigade, the NOS Volunteers, and the Austrian firefighters stationed in Quartu arrived immediately. They were guests of the same local association as part of the "Propositioning Ground Firefighting" project, promoted by the European Commission for environmental protection and firefighting. Volunteers from the PAFF also worked alongside them.
