Tragedy has struck the countryside of Quartu Sant'Elena , in the Niu Crobu area, where an eighty-year-old man lost his life while, according to initial reconstruction, trying to put out a fire that had broken out on his farm this morning. He apparently attempted to intervene with makeshift means before firefighters arrived . However, it has not been ruled out that he may have been taken ill and then engulfed in flames.

The Sardinian Forestry Corps responded to the scene, conducting firefighting operations with the support of a helicopter from its Villasalto base. The firefighting operations are coordinated by the Director of Firefighting Operations at the Sinnai Forestry Station.

The Forensic Police were also on site to carry out the necessary investigations.
