The Municipality confirms the dog beach during the summer season, but this year it is being moved a few meters to protect the seagrass deposited under the Margine Rosso railing. "The stretch of beach where the dog beach was located was particularly damaged last winter by the storm surge caused by Cyclone Harry," explains the Municipality's Environment Department. "The seagrass deposited in high banks in that area cannot be removed because it plays an important role in maintaining and regenerating the affected sandy stretch, which, due to its characteristics and the presence of the seawall behind it, is particularly fragile." Hence the Municipality's decision: "With the dual objective of protecting the environment, while also ensuring a suitable area for our four-legged friends, a special ordinance has been issued to move the dedicated area to another stretch, still in the Margine Rosso area, with the same characteristics, but obviously without critical accumulations of algae."

The new area, located in a particularly wide area of the beach, can be reached by private vehicle from both the Margine Rosso residential area, with an entrance next to the gas station, and from the final stretch of Poetto. As per the ordinance, "Access to the area is permitted to clinically healthy dogs, registered with the canine registry, treated for parasites, and vaccinated against the most common infectious diseases. Four-legged friends must be kept on a leash, while those clearly aggressive toward people or other animals are not permitted access at all. Furthermore, minors are not permitted to walk dogs, and a muzzle is required for use in case of emergency."
