The tender for the construction of an urban park on the former Fornaci Picci site in Quartu has been published. The project also includes the creation of public, cultural, and residential spaces. The new park, with pedestrian and bicycle paths between Fornaci Picci and the Rio Is Cungiuas, as well as other green spaces and parking areas around the buildings, will provide the city with new spaces for walking and cycling, and will also make a small but concrete contribution to improving the city's environmental quality.
"Thanks to the Region's collaboration," commented Urban Planning Councilor Aldo Vanini, "we have overcome the impasse created by the exhausting delays we faced in the PINQuA ministerial program process, and we will finally be able to open the first construction site within a few months. And the tender for the renovation of the first building overlooking Via Brigata Sassari will also be published very soon."
The project, funded by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia with €4.5 million and the Municipality of Quartu with €530,000, combines the municipal administration's urban regeneration strategies with the regional strategy for improving ecosystem services and ecological connectivity, in line with the "Greener Sardinia" objective.
An open tender procedure has therefore been launched on SardegnaCat for the awarding of the restoration and redevelopment works for the former industrial complex, relating to 'Lot 1 – Urban Park'. This procedure is open to all economic operators registered and authorised on the Sardinia Region's electronic market. The deadline for submitting bids is 45 days from the date of submission to the ANAC national database.
All tender documentation, along with design and technical documents, is available to participants on the SardegnaCat platform and on the Municipality's website, in the Transparent Administration section. Regenerating abandoned urban spaces means returning them to citizens and transforming them into places for living, meeting, and participation. It is a development model that integrates environmental quality, social cohesion, and sustainable innovation. The project includes urban forestation, the use of drainage materials, rainwater recovery, works to support the installation of photovoltaic systems, the replacement of non-native species with native ones, and the creation of nature trails and areas for sports and recreational activities.
