Three hundred and fifty thousand euros to close the dispute that has dragged on for ten years.
The legal battle between the Municipality of Quartu and Cagliari Calcio over Is Arenas now seems to be in its final stages, at the center of appeals and requests for compensation for damages presented to each other with the stadium once home to the rossoblù at its center. After several failed attempts, this time there is a draft settlement - proposed by the soccer club and approved by the executive of via Porcu - that should finally put an end to the war that began in 2015.
The football club is ready to pay - in 24 installments - 350 thousand euros in compensation to the municipal coffers, in addition to recognizing "the right of ownership to the Municipality of Quartu, without any financial burden, of the improvement works carried out on the facility" .
On the other hand, the Quartu administration "renounces any other claim for compensation for damages for the loss of enjoyment of the facility and for the damage to its image suffered, as well as any other reason, including damage deriving from the forfeiture measure adopted" . This is the broad outline of the agreement reached.
No comment from the Municipality after the yes in the Council to the resolution that is in fact preparatory to the hearing at the end of March. But barring any last-minute twists, everything should be concluded before the judge of the Court of Cagliari in two weeks with the confirmation of the agreement reached between the parties' lawyers.
A decisive step towards the rebirth of the Quartese stadium which - unforeseen circumstances permitting - should materialize between the end of the year and the beginning of 2026: the Municipality has already obtained 1 million from the Region for the restyling of the football pitch and the athletics track, and has put out the contract for the executive design. In the background there are also the Pnrr funding - 1 million and 600 thousand - plus another 700 thousand between regional and municipal resources, additional funds destined for the renovation of the entire sports center a stone's throw from Molentargius.
