After Wednesday's blackout, the taps ran dry again, albeit briefly, in Quartu. The mayor was outraged, having requested and obtained from Abbanoa the water supply being restored. In a statement, Mayor Graziano Milia wrote that "what happened today, with the water supply being shut off without warning throughout the city for the second time in a week, is absolutely unacceptable . We learned from residents, and of course verified firsthand, that due to a leak on Viale Marconi, near the small bridge over the Rio Is Cungiaus, the water supply has once again been cut off throughout the city, excluding the coastline. We're back to square one. I reiterate publicly, after having already told Abbanoa, that it is possible to shut off the water by sectioning off specific areas. I therefore find it absurd that they persist in leaving all of Quartu dry, this time without any warning. We had to intervene, activating our expert employees who previously worked on the water network, to explain to Abbanoa technicians how to cut off the supply, in emergencies like this, only in certain areas of the city."
Graziano Milia added that "consequently, as requested by me, the water supply has been restarted until our technician clarifies to the water company's technicians how to suspend it only in the affected section of Via Marconi, in this case the Viale Marconi area (from the corner of Via Turati towards Carrefour). I want to emphasize that this disruption occurred without any communication, on a day when schools are open, when a well-attended event like Monumenti Aperti is underway, when many businesses that had to deal with last Wednesday's closure found their taps dry again today and were therefore unable to operate . The disruption is enormous and, I repeat, unacceptable. I spoke frankly with the President of Abbanoa, who immediately took steps to provide a prompt response, and I thank him for this. I repeat, it is possible to operate by shutting off the water supply only to the affected areas. If Abbanoa is unable to do so, we ask that they evaluate the possibility of losing the water leaking from the network for today and, with the necessary advance notice, intervene during the night ."
