A new, extraordinary discovery was made this morning on the Poetto beach in Cagliari, near the Torre, close to the Marino hospital ( the other was found near the Marinella area): a nest of Caretta caretta sea turtles was identified.
This is the second hatching recorded in the space of a few days on the same stretch of coast, confirming the growing importance of the area as a nesting site for this protected species.
The alarm was raised by the tracks left on the sand by the turtles , which were immediately noticed by the environmental operators involved in monitoring the coast.
The distinctive signs left no room for doubt, and the verification and protection procedures required for the nests were immediately activated, in accordance with regional and national protocols for the protection of marine fauna.
The site will now be constantly monitored to avoid interference and ensure optimal conditions for future hatching.
The presence of the Caretta caretta, a species that is a symbol of marine biodiversity, is a positive sign for the coastal ecosystem and a strong reminder of collective responsibility in protecting the marine environment.
