A routine road check turned into a brawl last night in Quartu , where a 41-year-old local man was arrested on charges of resisting a public official, assault, possession of false documents and driving without a license.

The Carabinieri were patrolling the streets of a residential area of the city when they stopped a small car for a routine check. The driver was a 41-year-old man, already known to the police , who immediately took a hostile attitude.

When the soldiers then asked for his documents, the man reacted violently, attacking and insulting the soldiers to prevent the identification operations.

During the fight , both soldiers suffered minor abrasions, which were treated on site by 118 personnel.

Subsequent investigations revealed the reason for the reaction: the ID card presented had been counterfeit, with the integrated microchip removed. Furthermore, the 41-year-old had never held a driving license.

The falsified document and the vehicle were seized. The man was placed under house arrest pending a fast-track trial , scheduled for this morning at the Cagliari Courthouse.
