The emergency room at Cagliari's Santissima Trinità hospital will be closed on September 14th and 15th due to urgent, non-deferrable work. The Cagliari Local Health Authority (ASL) announced: "The temporary suspension of admissions will be for the time strictly necessary to complete the work. A medical and nursing team will be available for emergencies and non-deferrable admissions."

The goal is to prevent a repeat of the blackout that severely affected the hospital in February . Specifically, the repair of the barrier serving the emergency room cannot be postponed. This is the opinion of the technical office.

"This is an intervention that cannot be postponed any further," the company announced. "It is primarily aimed at preventing potential power supply anomalies and future blackouts, which, in a particularly sensitive context such as the emergency room, could compromise patient safety and the smooth running of care activities."

To allow the work to be carried out, the department's ordinary admissions activities will be temporarily suspended from 8:00 a.m. on Monday 14 September until Tuesday 15 September 2026 .

"The company is aware of the potential inconvenience this suspension may cause to patients and users," it wrote in a statement, "and has therefore taken every possible measure to minimize the impact on users."

The power outage "will not result in the absence of healthcare at the facility. A medical and nursing team will remain available to assist any patients who present themselves spontaneously at the facility." Staff will be responsible for assessing clinical conditions, assessing patients, stabilizing them, and managing urgent and non-deferrable emergencies.

The ASL (Local Health Authority) has also communicated the start of the work to other healthcare providers so that "emergency flows can be adequately absorbed."
