A journey through the history of the Giudicato of Gallura, amidst medieval influences, prominent female figures, and an atmosphere that evokes memories of a past still alive in the culture and identity of the region. The fine art photography exhibition "Giudicato di Gallura: Stories of Queens and Kingdoms," by photographer Giuseppe Ortu, born in Ozieri and residing in Olbia, opens tomorrow at the Casa delle Dame in Posada. The exhibition offers an artistic journey through over 40 photographs, through which the artist evokes the charm of medieval Gallura, paying homage to the female judges who shaped the island's history.
A visual narrative that intertwines historical memory and contemporary sensibility, entrusting photography with the task of capturing the faces, atmospheres, and emotions of a bygone era. At the heart of the project is the figure of the woman, the protagonist of the historical narrative and, at the same time, a symbol of strength, determination, and the ability to impact their time. This parallel transcends the confines of historical reconstruction to become a tribute to contemporary women, through a dialogue between past and present. The choice of location makes the initiative even more evocative.
The exhibition will be held in the ancient "Domo delle Dame" (Ladies' Dome) in Piazza Eleonora D'Arborea, a building that blends harmoniously into the architectural fabric of the historic village of Posada. Among the narrow streets of the ancient village, at the foot of the Castello della Fava, vestiges and glimpses that retain the charm of medieval architecture survive, offering a particularly fitting setting for Ortu's artistic project. The choice of exhibition space thus helps strengthen the connection between the works and the local area, transforming the visit into an experience that unites photography, history, and local identity. The images will interact with a context rich with references to the past, in a journey where art becomes a tool for rediscovering and valorizing historical memory.
The initiative, sponsored by the Region and organized in collaboration with the municipalities of Olbia, Ozieri, Tempio, and Posada, and the Istituzione San Michele, is part of the ongoing efforts to promote culture and enhance Sardinia's historical and artistic heritage. The exhibition will be open to the public until November 3, daily from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. For Posada, it is an opportunity to bring a significant chapter in the island's history back into the spotlight, through an artistic lens that combines visual impact and collective memory. A journey that begins with the queens and judges of the past and reaches the present, celebrating the role and strength of women and renewing the bond between the community and its roots.
