They used the urban hygiene services but did not pay the Tari. The crafty ones finally came to the surface. In the Municipality of Porto Torres, the fight against waste tax evasion has borne fruit. The revenues deriving from the activity of surfacing the evasion of the Tari amount to 275 thousand euros, higher revenues included in the variation of the Budget forecast, as illustrated by the competent assessor, Alessandro Carta, on the occasion of the Finance Commission, chaired by Gaetano Mura. The campaign for the distribution of bins and the separate waste collection kit, extended to November 31, contributed to doing the rest. Initiatives that have pushed several users to regularize their position with respect to the payment of the Tari.
"Following the ordinary management activity of the waste disposal tax, thanks to the work carried out by the Technical Offices for the recovery of tax evasion", explains Councilor Carta, "of the increased revenue found equal to 275 thousand euros, a part equivalent to 24% is directed to the doubtful debt fund, while 178 thousand euros available are intended for the strengthening and integration of the integrated waste management service". A recovery carried out after a control activity of the Tax Office, led by the director John Fois and which led to new registrations on the roll.
The change was approved unanimously by the commission, awaiting approval by the city council. "The structure continues to operate in this direction," adds Cartam, "generating the emergence of new pockets of evasion that allow us to prepare a Tari plan, because in the face of a more expensive urban hygiene service specification, managing to keep the rates for domestic users in line, with a reduction in non-domestic rates, is a tiring and meticulous job. I would add that the delivery of the new bins has certainly encouraged the registration of new families who have not yet been registered."
An important path of emergence also for a reason of fairness towards citizens and companies in compliance. "For this we must also thank the Environment Office that prepared that specification", adds the director Fois, "with which we work in synergy to reach a goal: to introduce an increasingly punctual tariff to reach a stabilization, for which the taxable base will be broader and will necessarily determine a reduction in tariffs for citizens".
