The Ferris wheel, one of the attractions that once graced the Porto Torres coastline, is leaving the city . Dismantling operations are now being completed for the structure, managed by the Claudi Ebel Dina company of the Moruzzi Group. It was inaugurated on April 18th, but was not a success among residents or tourists.
The seaside location on the Gulf of Asinara hasn't yielded the expected results , and revenue hasn't offset the expenses. Operating costs have been too high compared to the lack of public response. The 32-meter-high Ferris wheel, with 24 cabins, was designed with energy-saving LED lights. Installed about three months ago, it hasn't been well received by visitors, despite the area hosting several entertainment and traditional events.
Since yesterday, workers have been dismantling the last cabins and the entire structure, a costly undertaking that also involves the expense of occupying public land. From today, Piazza Eroi dell'Onda will no longer be illuminated by the lights of the giant ferris wheel that once graced that stretch of seafront space.
