The industrial redevelopment project, which began a few years ago at the former petrochemical plant, is entering a crucial phase in the redevelopment of Porto Torres' industrial waterfront. The Sassari Provincial Industrial Consortium has appointed tender commissions for the two tender procedures for the demolition of the former Cementir site and the design of the decommissioning projects for the ten hectares of industrial waterfront, which also include the former Ferriera Sarda. The commissions have begun evaluating the submitted proposals, marking significant progress in the regeneration of the Porto Torres industrial port waterfront. Operationally, emphasis is placed on rigorous planning of preparatory activities for demolition. For the former Cementir site, the project involves the demolition of the above-ground structures—already decontaminated—and the related underground foundations, as well as the management of related environmental activities. Demolition of the building is scheduled for later this year. As for the remaining 10 hectares of waterfront, which include the historic former Ferriera Sarda plant, the tender, with a starting price of over €763,000, focuses on the delicate planning phase of the operations. This aspect highlights the importance of extremely precise engineering and technical planning, structured into successive and preparatory steps, essential for defining the guidelines and operational procedures that will lead, safely, to the actual demolition of the structures. "The appointment of the tender commissions is a technical step, but far from formal," explains CIPSS President Simona Fois. "It means we are making concrete progress and getting closer to the moment when the construction sites will become a reality. We are working decisively on both fronts, with the goal of restoring strategic areas currently in a state of abandonment to the territory, ready to accommodate new production functions and generate quality employment." The two projects are part of the broader reconversion strategy for the Porto Torres industrial area, funded under the FSC Cohesion Agreement 2021–2027, and represent two key steps in the Consortium's journey to revitalize the maritime economy and shipbuilding, laying the infrastructural and economic foundations for the development of this new asset.
