It risks remaining eternally unfinished, a dream born over twenty years ago and vanished into thin air. The public swimming pool in the Oleandro district of Porto Torres will not be completed. In reality it was never born and for those who, just for a moment, had the illusion of seeing a swimming facility with a post-trauma fitness and recreational centre, club house and multi-purpose field built in the future, there is a risk of being disappointed, of losing the game.
The project was created by private individuals on municipally owned land. That structure in Via Bazzoni, suffocated by weeds, just asks for a bit of decorum, to get out of the state of decay that has accompanied it in recent years. The topic returned to the center of the last meeting of the city council. Like corpses, attempts are made to exhume the remains. But what remains is only a hope of allocating it to other activities.
«It is possible that by entrusting the management of the structure to third parties with a public tender, built in such a way as to allow its completion, the building could be used for recreational or sporting activities», proposes Bastianino Spanu, Sardinian group leader. «It is not an easy operation», replies the mayor Massimo Mulas «we are thinking of possible financing to complete it, but we are certainly not thinking of a swimming pool, but of something else, perhaps a museum. The problem, however, is another, which is that investors show up with good intentions but when you do the math, they run away."
In the meantime, the Municipality is taking steps to clean up the area infested with insects and mice. «It must be taken into account that when that structure were to request a significant amount for safety, - adds the mayor - the sums used would be spread over the years of any rent, therefore the investment would be possible and convenient when the associations were to take over the management of the structure for several years".
