Porto Torres: the Teresa boat wins the XVII Fisherman's Regatta
Seven boats in the race, the appointment is in the splendid bay of Scoglio LungoThe boat “Teresa” by Rivieccio triumphs at the XVII edition of the Regata del Pescatore, the ancient charm that is renewed every year in the splendid bay of Scoglio Lungo, on the coast of Porto Torres. Seven boats showed up on the beach this morning for the event that attracted many curious people, a large audience that witnessed the start and the moment of arrival. Second place of honor was awarded to “Gruviera”, helmed by Andrea Fiori, and in third place “Salvatore Padre” a one hundred year old boat from Stintino. Fourth place for “San Vincenzo” by Greco, fifth “Sara” by Sannino, sixth place for “Giuseppina” and, finally, Liberata by Usai.
The boats rigorously rigged with lateen sails, preserve traces of history even in the costumes of the fishermen of the past, forming the crew with their equipment on board and the women in traditional clothes who greet their spouse from the Scoglio Lungo beach. The city of Porto Torres once again experienced the emotion of the Fisherman's Regatta, the event born twenty years ago from the will of Lorenzo Nuvoli and organized by the association of which he is a member, Assovela, a historical re-enactment on a summer day where all the fishermen showed skill and play, faced the difficulties, between the light east wind that rowed against or in favor depending on the capacity of the boats.
The wait and then the start, the moment when the participants push the boats out to sea and then with vigorous rowing towards the fishing area. Suggestive moments experienced until the end of the race. The winner is the one who, upon arrival, touches land first with the symbolic equipment on board.
