The conference on the technical-economic feasibility project for the conservation and enhancement of the Su Crocifissu Mannu Necropolis, the archaeological site in Porto Torres recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has concluded successfully. The Region of Sardinia and the Superintendency of Sassari and Nuoro have expressed their approval, without stipulations, for the execution of the works as envisioned in the project, including the installation of new signage. The content of the signage will be agreed upon by the Superintendency's technical and scientific staff.

The excavation and earthmoving work, however, will be carried out under the constant supervision of a professional archaeologist. The project is made possible thanks to funding from the Region, amounting to €150,000.

The actions envisaged in the conservation and enhancement project prepared by the Municipality will include improving accessibility, demarcating the area, creating a rest area, and installing informational and educational signs in accordance with the instructions of the relevant ABAP Superintendency offices.

This is an initial package of interventions, pending further funding already provided by the RAS, aimed at improving the accessibility and usability of Su Crucifissu Mannu, which could play a strategic role in the Administration's cultural development plans.

Su Crucifissu Mannu, with its twenty-two underground tombs dating back to the Neolithic, can also be visited via a guided tour service run by the Historical Memory operators of the Municipal Tourist Office, which lists the site as one of the most visited in the Porto Torres area.

In November 2025, the City Council approved the Municipality's membership in the Participation Foundation for the management of the serial site "The Funerary Tradition in Prehistory of Sardinia.

The Domus de Janas" and the approval of its Statute. Following the inscription of 17 Sardinian sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List, including the necropolis of Su Crucifissu Mannu, the World Heritage Committee has issued a series of specific recommendations to ensure that this historic recognition, which took place on July 12, can have lasting effects in terms of protection and enhancement and translate into concrete opportunities for local territories and communities.
