Porto Torres, sit-in protests against high freight prices
The Reformers: "Territorial continuity is necessary for goods."A sit-in was held this morning at the commercial port of Porto Torres to protest the high prices of freight transport and to demand that the Region and the national government establish territorial continuity for freight transport as well.
The Sardinian Reformers organized the mobilization: "The situation is now unsustainable. Maritime transport costs had already increased significantly in 2025, and further increases are expected in the future," the initiative's supporters explain.
"There's a shortage of space on ships for commercial vehicles, boarding delays, cancellations, and a structural uncertainty that's forcing companies to reassess logistics cycles and inventory levels. The burden of the ETS system, which accounts for up to 40 percent of the cost of the crossing, further exacerbates an already critical situation," said regional secretary Aldo Salaris, who was present at the event, along with territorial coordinator Angela Desole.
The Porto Torres stop is just the starting point of a tour the party began of the island's main ports after the presentation to the Regional Council of the motion on the implementation of the insularity principle applied to goods.
"The transport of goods to and from Sardinia must be recognized as an essential service, as is already the case in other European countries. We need structural compensation, a stable model of territorial continuity, the introduction of a maximum sustainable freight rate, and certainty for those who work there," adds Salaris.
