A building at risk of collapse which for ten months has kept the residents of Largo Sabelli in check as they deal with what they define as "a true martyrdom". The two-storey building, an old building located in the Monte Angellu district of Porto Torres, presents serious critical issues and the static instability of some walls. The area, banned from March 2023, had been delimited with barriers. It then seems that the owners have disappeared.
The Sardinian group leader, Bastianino Spanu, proposed the demolition of the structure. «Considering that the building is unsafe, it would be one of the possible alternatives» he says «or it could be acquired as municipal heritage to be used for recreational and cultural activities». A difficult path to take, according to mayor Massimo Mulas.
«Because there is no well-defined line on the properties » he replies «and it would be too burdensome for the institution if we note that it is a property under protection because it is over 50 years old».
Therefore it would be uneconomical and difficult for the organization to plan its intended use. "Therefore we are trying, together with the Heritage Office, to bring out the owners, so that they can take responsibility for the property in question, which creates a significant inconvenience for traffic and safety."
To avoid any danger to people, in agreement with the staff of the Local Police command, access to the building was prohibited and the area in front of the building located on Largo Sabelli, on the corner of Via Mentana, was delimited .
«If it had not been so imposing and tall – adds Mulas – we could have considered the possibility of securing the building, at least with a bulkhead, so as to make the road usable again. But the resources to be used would really be too costly compared to our municipal coffers, money that we try to use for other emergencies."
While waiting to resolve the issues regarding the ownership of the property, it is hoped that the structure will not collapse completely.
